Description :
Susan Cain - author of the forthcoming Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking (Crown, January 2012) - will talk about how dramatically our culture misunderstands and undervalues introverts in this increasingly social world. She will address, based on the latest psychology and neuroscience, why she considers these advantageous traits and feels she owes her success to them. She will offer a perceptive critique of collaboration and outline a plethora of practical skills such as how to network if you hate small talk and how to modulate your personality according to circumstance. Cain blogs at http://ThePowerofIntroverts.com and is author of a "most e-mailed" New York Times article on the value of shyness and introversion. Sponsored by Random House Sponsors :

Creating digital collections is only the beginning of successful digitization projects. Building on the OITP Perspectives Paper, “Digitizing Hidden Collections in Public Libraries,” this panel will address initiatives aimed at providing increased access to the invaluable small and medium-sized digitization projects created by countless libraries, archives, and museums. Panelists Susan Currie, director of the Tompkins County (N.Y.) Public Library; Rachel Frick, Director, Digital Library Federation Program, Council on Library and Information Resource; Robert Horton, Associate Deputy Director for Library Services, Institute of Museum and Library Services; • Patrick Murray-John, Research Assistant Professor and Omeka Development Team Manager at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, George Mason University; and Carol Linn, Library Consultant will discuss how to ensure access to and discoverability of digitization projects after their creation and best practices for collaborating with other institutions.
