Then join YALSA for a half day preconference and get tips on how to: revamp your homework help services using NYPL's Homework Help app; create inviting, purposeful Teen Spaces on a budget; incorporate essential digital literacy skills into programs; provide creative Reader's Advisory using QR codes; use outcome-based evaluations to assess retention and program effectiveness; and harness the power of youth participation.

Think you know all there is to know about young adult literature and YALSA's book awards and book lists? Then come show off your knowledge at this event! Cash bar and light refreshments. Donations will be collected at the event for YALSA's Leadership Endowment, which will fund future leadership-focused efforts, such as student scholarships, mentoring programs, leadership institutes and more.

This is a leadership training session for YALSA's Selection & Award Committee Chairs. All current and out-going Selection & Award Committee Chairs are expected to attend. In-coming Selection & Award Committee Chairs are welcome to attend, but are not required to do so. Directors on YALSA's Board are also expected to attend. Never been a Selection or Award Committee Chair, but thinking about being one? Come to this event to learn the leadership basics for these particular types of committees. A continental breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 8:30.

Are you interested in becoming more involved in the association or are you ready to step up to a leadership position? If so, this event is designed for you! Come learn how to be more involved!

This is a working meeting for YALSA's Process Committees, Juries and Taskforces who opt to participate. Not on a commmittee or other member group? Stop on by and learn what it's all about. Individuals who are not serving on a member group, but who want to learn about them are welcome to choose a member group and sit in on their meeting. A continental breakfast will be served from 10:00 to 10:30.

Hosted by YALSA Past Presidents and co-sponsored by the Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) Advisory Committee. This event will feature a paper presentation from Jeanie Austin called "Critical Issues in Juvenile Detention Center Libraries." The paper will explore the tensions present in juvenile detention center library services (such as institutional limitations and access to technologies) and how youth and librarians can and do navigate these tensions within the library setting. Ms. Austin is a Certificate of Advanced Study student at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Meet and mingle with the candidates who are on the ballot for the 2012 election, including President-Elect, Division Councilor and Board of Directors at Large. Candidates will have the opportunity to talk about why they want to serve on YALSA's Board of Directors and attendees will have the chance to mingle with the candidates and ask questions. Light refreshments and door prizes.

Join Marie Radford and RUSA RSS past chair Joe Thompson to participate in a discussion about the dynamics of negotiating reference questions with Young Adults face-to-face and via various technologies. Open to all ALA attendees. We will also discuss the progress on planning a joint interest group between YALSA and RUSA RSS that will focus on Young Adult Reference Services. Sponsored by the RSS Marketing and Public Relations Committee.

This meeting is open to all registered conference attendees. Come and meet the ALA Councilors who are members of AASL, ALSC and YALSA and learn about how youth issues are brought forward in ALA Council.

Come to this free event and help YALSA celebrate the 2012 honorees and winners for the Morris Award and YA Nonfiction Award! Enjoy refreshments and listen to the winners and finalists speak about their honored titles. After the speeches, you will have the opportunity to mingle with the authors and get signed books.
