Leadership Development workshop for 2012 Emerging Leader participants.

The Chapter Leaders Forum, presented by the ALA Chapter Relations Committee at each ALA Midwinter and Annual, provides a great opportunity for Chapter Leaders (especially incoming leaders) to meet and discuss a full agenda on topics to help prepare them to lead an association. Topics have included Membership Development and Retention, New Revenue Ideas, Social Media, and Advocacy. This event requires advance registration and includes lunch. No on-site registration.

This important meeting focuses on the need for an up-to-date educational preparation of catalogers and other metadata specialists, so that the educational system will continue to produce professional librarians whose skill sets match the needs of the marketplace that they will be entering.

Meeting of ACRL Science & Technology Section officers and committee chairs. Council II meeting will take place virtually after Midwinter meeting.

This is a leadership training session for YALSA's Selection & Award Committee Chairs. All current and out-going Selection & Award Committee Chairs are expected to attend. In-coming Selection & Award Committee Chairs are welcome to attend, but are not required to do so. Directors on YALSA's Board are also expected to attend. Never been a Selection or Award Committee Chair, but thinking about being one? Come to this event to learn the leadership basics for these particular types of committees. A continental breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 8:30.

Part of ALA President Molly Raphael's "Empowering Diverse Voices," this event will provide new and emerging leaders the opportunity to meet with established leaders to forge connections which further their involvement in the association and profession. Advance registration required.

Meeting of STS Hot Topics Discussion Group

Meet and mingle with the candidates who are on the ballot for the 2012 election, including President-Elect, Division Councilor and Board of Directors at Large. Candidates will have the opportunity to talk about why they want to serve on YALSA's Board of Directors and attendees will have the chance to mingle with the candidates and ask questions. Light refreshments and door prizes.

International Council of Library Association Executives (ICLAE) is comprised of ALA Chapter Executive Directors and other Chapter Leaders.

How can professional organization involvement enhance your day-to-day job? Join us for a discussion and networking with LLAMA and NMRT leaders, new librarians, new members of LLAMA and/or NMRT, librarians making career shifts, and anyone interested in developing leadership skills.

Nancy Bolt of Nancy Bolt & Associates will moderate an open hearing on a new draft "Library Consultant Code of Ethics". Should it be adopted by ALA? Open to all ALA members.Discussion will be followed by a business meeting of the ASCLA Library Consultants Interest Group Leadership Team.

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance and Sunrise Celebration features words and music commemorating Dr. King's legacy and recognizes the connection between his life's work and the library world. Sponsored by SRRT, BCALA, ALA OLOS, and World Book, Inc.
