All Sessions

An unconference is a participant-guided experience that harnesses the unstructured conversations people usually have between conference sessions into the conference itself. Unlike most conferences where talking heads and group leaders decide what is important, unconferences are organized by the crowd. Unconferences are about sharing the knowledge and passion we have for our profession and taking what we learn into the world to make a difference. Everyone has something to share. Everyone has something to learn. We can all change the world.

Orientation for International Librarians

New to the Midwinter Meeting or ALA? Get a fun and informative introduction to the Midwinter Meeting. Learn to navigate the exhibits, to decipher the conference program, how ALA really works, and ways to get involved. NMRT provides tips from the pros and the opportunity for you to get your questions answered.

Are you a new ALCTS member or interested in becoming a member? Please join the ALCTS New Members Interest Group for a brief overview of ALCTS and opportunity to network with other new members and veteran members. Before attending the meeting, please register to be a mentor or mentee at http://bit.ly/s9RvPJ. Anyone unable to register before the meeting is still welcome, and may be matched depending on availability of other mentors or mentees. The ALA Facebookers After-Hours event returns to Midwinter in Dallas (10:00 pm - 2:00 am, LaGrange: 2704 Elm St.)!

As usual, this will be the best-attended social event at the conference, so invite all your friends so they don't miss out!

There's a cover charge BUT we don't have to pay it. Librarians go straight through the silver doors to a separate room and NOT into the line where they will be asking for a cover.

How can professional organization involvement enhance your day-to-day job? Join us for a discussion and networking with LLAMA and NMRT leaders, new librarians, new members of LLAMA and/or NMRT, librarians making career shifts, and anyone interested in developing leadership skills.

Library School doesn't always prepare you for all of the tasks and situations that you'll encounter as a new/aspiring librarian. The ACRL New Members Discussion Group will bring together a panel of librarians who will discuss things they wish they had learned in library school. Topics may include marketing and outreach, working with limited faculty/staff support, and more. Bring your experiences and questions as there will plenty of time for questions and discussion.
