The Enhance Sharing Session is a forum for Q&A and for the exchange of information concerning OCLC's Enhance program and Expert Community.

OTitle: OCLC Americas Regional Council Annual Member Meeting and Symposium
Open to all! Join your OCLC member colleagues for a fast-paced, informative afternoon. We'll start with a light lunch at noon. After a brief welcome from ARC Chair William Maes, you'll hear a dynamic keynote presentation from author and TechCrunch Senior Editor Sarah Lacy, who will speak on "Mining the Fault Lines: Big Collaboration on a Richter Web Scale," with Q&A to follow. William Maes will also give a membership update, followed by roundtable discussions. Then, OCLC senior managers will share membership survey results and present on the Cost Sharing Models Task Force’s recommendations. The afternoon concludes with a social reception with the OCLC Board of Trustees, OCLC senior managers and Americas Regional Council Ambassadors.

"Library of Congress Decisions for Copy Cataloging with RDA," Presented by Barbara B. Tillett, Chief Policy & Standards Divison, Library of Congress:

What's a cataloger to do if headings or the entire bibliographic record is coded as RDA? This presentation will review LC decisions for its own staff,and share information about the documentation and training materials that are available on LC's Web page relevant to copy cataloging with RDA.

"CIP Metadata for E-books"

Karl Debus-López, Chief of the U.S. General Division and Acting Chief of the U.S. and Publisher Liaison Division at the Library of Congress, will present information on the Library of Congress’ new pilot project to create cataloging in publication metadata for electronic books that are simultaneously published with their print equivalents. The rationale for providing pre-publication metadata for electronic books will be discussed, as will the scope of the pilot and the process created by the Library of Congress to create the metadata. Library of Congress created CIP e-book pre-publication data for the pilot participants is currently available in OCLC for use by libraries and vendors as a source of copy cataloging.

This session will feature updates about advocacy programs for public libraries.

The RBMS Task Force on Metrics and Assessment will be charged with examining current practices for gathering and reporting statistics on special collections and archives; conducting a survey of the literature; and working toward establishing best practices. The Task Force will consider both what activities are worthy of assessment and how to undertake the assessment of those activities. As the OCLC report points out, without norms for our metrics it is extremely difficult to make comparisons across institutions.

Join library panelists as they share current and planned efficiency savings achieved with OCLC Web-scale Management Services by replacing rote tasks with higher-value, higher-priority projects. This session will be led by an OCLC workflow consultant who has been on-site at these implementing libraries to assess the impact of Web Scale services on cataloging, discovery and delivery.

The program will include presentations on enhancements made to catalog records at the College of New Jersey Library to improve the discovery of video materials and the impact of print withdrawal projects at Florida State University Libraries on catalog management activities. Discussion topics include the effect of patron driven acquisitions on library catalogs and quality control issues associated with vendor supplied record sets.Presentations and speakers:

• “A Little Breathing Room Please! Catalog Management Projects That Make a Difference” presented by Ruth S. Ziegler, who will cover the impact of print withdrawal projects on catalog management activities.

• “Separate, Merged, and Separate Once Again: Un-mulvering the Mulvered Records” presented by Lucas Mak, who will describe how he used XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation) to automate the process of separating 7,400 single records for theses that described both the print and microform versions into separate records for each format.

• “Cooperative Quality Control for Cataloging: Initiatives in Error Handling” presented by Ian Fairclough, who will review cooperative initiatives he has undertaken with OCLC and electronic distribution lists he created to further the cooperative resolution of cataloging errors.

• “Towards Better Discovery of Video Materials” presented by Cathy Weng and Yuji Tosaka, who will illustrate how enhancements were made to catalog records to improve the discovery of video materials.

Centralize e-resource management with Web-scale services from OCLC. A new License Manager works with the WorldCat knowledge base to consolidate discovery, fulfillment and management of your licensed resources. The knowledge base also streamlines sharing of articles and e-books, enables full link resolution in WorldCat Local and integrates with Web-scale acquisitions to consolidate all parts of e-resource management for the first time.

The LITA Next Generation Catalog Interest Group invites representatives from major next generation catalog system vendors, including Ex Libris, eXtensible Catalog Organization, OCLC, and Serials Solutions. Each representative will demonstrate distinctive features of their system and will join in a panel discussion on topics, such as challenges of developing next generation catalog systems, embracing non-MARC metadata, and taking advantage of linked data.

Participants are encouraged to ask any question related to next generation catalog systems. A brief business meeting of the Next Generation Catalog Interest Group will be following.

In this session, Kathryn Harnish, OCLC’s product manager for the platform, describes several approaches that OCLC is taking to enable libraries—and their partners—to customize workflows, enhance the user experience and increase overall effectiveness.

Join us to learn how CONTENTdm Digital Collection Management Software helps you to share digital special collections on the web and gives you full control of digital items, as well as their descriptions, access and display. The website configuration tools let you easily customize the appearance and behavior of your digital collections. Join us for a fun and casual discussion regarding technology trends to watch from some of today’s foremost experts.

Join us for a small but powerful forum to discuss rural library advocacy. This session will introduce the newly revised “Small But Powerful Guide to Winning Big Support for Your Rural Library,” a toolkit from the ALA Committee on Rural, Native, and Tribal Libraries of All Kinds, the Office for Literacy and Outreach Services, and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries. Panelists will discuss some of the current issues facing small and rural libraries and successful strategies for rural library advocacy. An open forum for librarians to share best practices, questions, and concerns will conclude the session.

Panelists will outline key cataloging changes related to RDA and steps being taken in preparation for implementation sometime after January 2013. Although there is at least a year before wide scale implementation of RDA, changes are already impacting workflow and data exchange.

In an effort to economize on speakers and room space and to add emphasis to this topic CaMMS is foregoing its Friday Forum to join with the TF in presenting this RDA Forum.

Scheduled presenters include: Beacher Wiggins (Library of Congress), Linda Barnhart (Chair PCC), Glenn Patton (OCLC), Sally McCallum (MARBI) and Troy Linker (ALA Publishing).

The focus of our program will be updates on special Authority Control projects. Janis Young from the Library of Congress will give an update of the genre/forms projects at LC. Robert Bremer of OCLC will provide updates on VIAF and the genre/form implementation in WorldCat.
