The web is evolving from a global information space for storing individual documents into a highly diverse information network in which pieces of data interlink and work synergistically together to create meaning. Speakers will introduce the Semantic Web and the basics of linked data. Particular attention on library linked data will include a review of the state of the art and some practical experience in linking library data to the greater linked data cloud.

Target Audience: Librarians, developers of web applications, information architects, and others interested in the basic concept of the semantic web, linked data and how libraries can take a leadership role in creating linked data solutions.

The goal of the program is to empower participants to help accelerate the transformation of the scholarly communication system. Participants will engage in a structured interactive program that explores scholarly publishing, author rights and OA in practice. This institute is appropriate for those with administrative responsibilities, with new leadership assignments in scholarly communication or digital publishing, as well as liaisons and any others who are seeking to advance their professional development in scholarly communication.

Explore AASL’s A Planning Guide for Empowering Learners with the School Library Program Assessment Rubric and learn how to collect and use data to drive program improvement. Then learn how AASL’s Standards for the 21st-Century Learner in Action and Lesson Plan Database can take programs to the next level by building lessons cross-walked with the Common Core Standards.

Learn how to engage and mobilize friends and trustees groups, opinion-makers and civic organizations to support your public, school and academic libraries.
