Advisory Committee Meeting for the Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study

Learn how your library will benefit as libraries worldwide collaborate to create a shared future through OCLC Web-scale solutions. Moving library operations to the cloud enables transformational shifts in resourcing that help meet end users’ changing needs, and the new cooperative platform will create opportunities for sharing data and locally-created applications with libraries locally and globally. Hear how OCLC’s Web-scale solutions are changing every step of the library’s workflow: acquisitions, circulation, electronic resource management, resource sharing, discovery, metadata management and more. This session will feature updates about advocacy programs for public libraries.

Join library panelists as they share current and planned efficiency savings achieved with OCLC Web-scale Management Services by replacing rote tasks with higher-value, higher-priority projects. This session will be led by an OCLC workflow consultant who has been on-site at these implementing libraries to assess the impact of Web Scale services on cataloging, discovery and delivery.

A forum and group discussion on the Edge Initiative, a national effort to introduce benchmarks for high quality public access technology in libraries.

ALA’s Committee on Literacy and ALA’s Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS)announces the release of an essential resource for public libraries interested in reaching adult learners. This new toolkit, Adult Literacy @ your library, provides tips, tools, and resources for adding, expanding, and advocating for adult literacy services @ your library. This open forum is an opportunity for librarians to join a panel of literacy experts and advocates for a discussion of current and emerging issues, promising practices, and next steps.

Join us for a small but powerful forum to discuss rural library advocacy. This session will introduce the newly revised “Small But Powerful Guide to Winning Big Support for Your Rural Library,” a toolkit from the ALA Committee on Rural, Native, and Tribal Libraries of All Kinds, the Office for Literacy and Outreach Services, and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries. Panelists will discuss some of the current issues facing small and rural libraries and successful strategies for rural library advocacy. An open forum for librarians to share best practices, questions, and concerns will conclude the session.
