New and experienced program reviewers and report compilers are encouraged to attend this session to learn about the NCATE program review process. Participants will learn about application of the standards, report preparation, and appropriate assessments. The session will include a discussion of the new revised ALA/AASL Standards for Initial Preparation of School Librarians.

The Executive Board is the governing body of Beta Phi Mu. It is empowered to set policy, authorize and dissolve chapters upon petition, review and adopt the annual budget, authorize expenditures for specific activities not included in the annual budget, provide leadership to the chapters through liaison with the Assembly and by providing chapters with handbooks for guidance, respond to recommendations from the Assembly, authorize seminars and other programs or training, carry out the requirements of these Bylaws, and initiate other activities to carry out the purposes of Beta Phi Mu.

Experienced ERPs who have participated in two or more on-site visits are invited to attend training for ERP Chairs. The session will prepare attendees to lead an external review of MLIS programs seeking ALA accreditation. The session will include a panel discussion featuring experienced ERP Chairs and Office for Accreditation staff.

Join in the conservation about training in your library. Share your ideas, find out trends, and meet new people. This is a great way to kick off your conference with other innovative friendly library folks. All are welcome.

Committee Meeting for the Greater Western Library Alliance Collection Development Committee

Open to all, the Fun Run 5K & Walk will take place on Saturday, January 21, in Dallas where it debuted in 1984. An annual event for 21 years, the ALA Fun Run established an organized healthy activity during the Annual Conference, other than running from meeting room to meeting room, or across the exhibit floor. Reinstated at Midwinter 2012, the Fun Run 5K & Walk is open to all. Participation includes event t-shirt, goody bag, and awards ceremony. The cost is $30 per person. Learn to navigate the exhibits, to decipher the conference program, how ALA really works, and ways to get involved. NMRT provides tips from the pros and the opportunity for you to get your questions answered.

This is a leadership training session for YALSA's Selection & Award Committee Chairs. All current and out-going Selection & Award Committee Chairs are expected to attend. In-coming Selection & Award Committee Chairs are welcome to attend, but are not required to do so. Directors on YALSA's Board are also expected to attend. Never been a Selection or Award Committee Chair, but thinking about being one? Come to this event to learn the leadership basics for these particular types of committees. A continental breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 8:30.

Interviewing has evolved dramatically since the yes/no type questions asked by employers. Behavioral interviewing is the latest method of job interviewing that employers use to determine the high performing candidate. You need to know how to prepare, what to expect and how to deliver at the interview.

The premise behind behavioral interviewing is that your past performance is the most accurate predictor of your future performance in similar situations. Employers are much more probing with this technique and not only want to evaluate your past experiences but want to know about your past performance to determine your potential for success. Employers want to avoid falling into the trap of hiring candidates that shine at the interview but don’t work out on the job.

In the interview, you need to reach for the STAR when delivering your response and tell stories to illustrate you do have the skills and experience for the position. From the employer’s perspective, the presenter will provide you with the information and tools to master the behavioral interview so you can snag that job!
