The Internet Resources and Services IG will discuss exciting current technology trends. At this meeting, the group will review past programs and plan future activities. We will prepare, for one of LITA’s big events, the seventh annual Ultimate Debate titled “Cloud Computing: Liberation or Big Brother.” Join us and become a member of LITA’s Internet Resources and Services IG. The ACRL Copyright Discussion Group focuses on copyright related issus of current interest to college and university librarians. Litigation and legislative developments related to orphan works and ditial libraries will be the topic of discussion at Midwinter 2012.

Life after the Statistical Abstract: What will the proposed demise of the Statistical Abstract mean for reference librarians and library users? Now in its 130th annual edition, Statistical Abstract has played a central role in guiding users to statistics since before we were born.
Since finding statistics can be challenging under the best of circumstances, what are our strategies for dealing with this loss? Are there new services and products we would like to see from commercial publishers?

Perpetual Access: Peaks and Pitfalls

We know that we want to have perpetual access clauses in our licenses and we know that publishers will provide them, but what are we actually getting with our perpetual access rights? In this informal group setting, we will discuss the results of our examination of perpetual access clauses from 20 of the Texas A&M University Libraries’ licenses for our major journal packages, including the impact on our electronic resources and serials workflows; the potential impact on the acquisitions and cataloging staff; and how perpetual access affects our current and/or future functions as technical services librarians. We will present a chart comparing the perpetual access rights offered by the 20 publishers and we will then open the discussion to the audience to learn how librarians at other institutions deal with perpetual access.

Meeting of the ALCTS Scholaraly Communications Interest Group for discussion

This will be the inaugural meeting of the reconstituted Vendor/Library Interest Group. The purpose of the meeting will be to finalize the name and charge of the interest group as well as a substantive discussion of the key issues in play between the vendor and library community related to technology, and to plan activities for the Annual Conference.
